I am an artist working mostly in large scale sculpture. Much of my work moves, and much is interactive. My business and studio are based in Portland Oregon, though I spend extended periods in New York City. I am married to Page Fortna and we have two excellent daughters, Rosie, 5, and Linden, just turned 3.

In a very unexpected turn I recently went to Taipei Taiwan to propose with a team on a series of projects in the new subway line there. It appears that we got the job! I will be building the Taipei Rhododendron for the Daan Forest Park station of the new line. I will be working with DADA Art R&D, of Taipei on the project.

I am currently working on two proposals, one for OIT in Klamath Falls Oregon, the other in Chatanooga Tennessee.

In August I built an entry arch for the Just A Field project. The project is an awesome turf soccer field behind Chapman Grade school (my alma mater) and it is a memorial for Steve Brand. A fun project to have a hand in. Photos can be seen here .

I was recently commissioned to build a sculpture for the new HRT Bus Maintenance Facility in Norfolk, VA, a sort of doors opening in sequence, solar powered thing. Should be installed summer 2012.

Late in 2010 I completed three commissions :

For TriMet, a sculpture at the new Civic Drive light rail stop in Gresham, OR. It is a tower with a kinetic sort of iris valve at the top. Thanks to Stephan Von Muehlen and Parallel Development for help long ago with the model of an early version of this sculpture. Thanks to Tom James, Allegra Shum and Todd Littlehales for fabrication and installation help on this piece.

For the new Port of Portland headquarters building in Portland Oregon, I built a kinetic outdoor shade/rain structure. Thanks to Jim Meakin, Todd Littlehales, and Madden Fabrication for epic help with fabrication and installation.

For the Seattle Office of Arts and Cultural Affairs I created a sculpture for Firestation #37 in West Seattle. Called "Lifter", it is interactive and kinetic. Props to West Seattle for being a cool neighborhood. Thanks to Jim Meakin, Tom James, and Allegra Shum for fabrication and installation help on this one. Oh, and thank god for the SJIII.

The outdoor interactive sculpture Breathing Post remains at The Arts Center in Corvallis Oregon on inexplicably long term loan.
